Knowing why you're in business is that one (often overlooked) thing to figure out to really understand what your customers think of your business.


Some people get into business because it makes business sense. There’s a niche – exploit it to make money.

Some people get into business because they want to solve a problem – often a complexity with the world that is unnecessary.

There are equally successful businesses in each camp. Sometimes these perspectives even co-exist, and sometimes they don’t. Regardless, knowing the difference and where you stand helps to give managers some insight into what customers think of you.

No customer wants to feel like they’re being ripped off, so sharing the value in what you do will go a damn long way to make sure customers understand what you really do.
